Ghost Meringues
Ingredients:
- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Black gel food coloring for decorating
- Piping bag with a round tip
- Parchment paper
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 200F 93C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
In a clean, dry mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on high speed until they form stiff peaks
Gradually add the granulated sugar while continuing to beat the egg whites
Beat until the mixture is glossy and the sugar is fully dissolved
Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined
Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag fitted with a round tip
Pipe ghost shapes onto the parchment paper-lined baking sheet
Start with a small circle for the head and then pipe a larger, slightly elongated shape for the body
Make a few ghost shapes on the sheet, leaving space in between each one
Use black gel food coloring to create eyes and mouths on each ghost shape to give them a spooky look
Bake in the preheated oven for about 1
5 hours or until the meringues are dry and crisp
You can check by gently touching one to see if it's firm
Once done, turn off the oven and leave the meringues inside to cool completely
Once cooled, carefully peel the meringue ghosts off the parchment paper and they are ready to serve! Enjoy your gluten-free Ghost Meringues for Halloween!
